![]() It was nice that after 52 years the show cast an openly transgender actress for a role. The Doctor: "Well, that's how they roll in the 38th century." You can never unsee it."įull names of the crew members include Jagganth Dalkl-Nagata, Haruka Deep-Ando, Osamu Alml-Chopra while 474 was revealed to be only five years old and genetically grown.Ĭlara: "Have your brought me to a restaurant?" Rassmussen (to audiences): "You must not watch this. It's metatextual but not in a good way whatsoever.įor the first time, there was no opening credit sequence and very little in the way of music. Clara might have got to name the creature and briefly get caught into one of the sleeping pods but you literally could've done this episode without her and it wouldn't have made a different (similar to Amy/Rory in Night Terrors) and the Doctor's greatest contribution this week was to point out how little the plot made sense. Also none of them survived, except Nagata but that was laid out to us earlier in the episode.Įven the Doctor and Clara weren't at their best in this one either. Chopra, pretty as he was (something the episode was pleased with commenting on) came close to showing some characterisation due to his opposition to the Morpheus Machine but the Grunt known as 474 (Bethany Black great but sadly wasted in this role), Geordie group leader Nagata and some bloke named Deep Ando were fairly underused and left little impression as a result. Points for it's audacity but it still felt a wholly unsatisfying note to end this episode.Īs for the crew - unlike Toby Whithouse's two parter earlier this series, this lot weren't as well fleshed out to be honest. The reveal at the end of Rassmussen's true plans and the ambiguity of the ending was a mixed bag for me. The Sandmen themselves looked a little reminiscent of the Time creatures from Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS and while they exuded a certain degree of menace, we've had better monsters this series - mainly returning ones if I'm being truthful. He invented a machine that disgusted the Doctor, Clara and one member of the rescue crew, caused the Sandmen to come to life and seemed more than okay with humanity being wiped out by the creatures as well. ![]() I have to admit that while Shearsmith seemed tailor made for this role, not once in this episode was Rassmussen given a moment to really innovative as a villain though. Of course this dilemma didn't particularly bother Morpheus's inventor, Gagen Rassmussen, as played by The League Of Gentlemen actor, Reece Shearsmith. The Morpheus Machine allowed people to take a snooze of five minutes, which equated to a month's worth of sleep but the downside was that the mucus you get from sleep would result in Sandmen. I have to admit, the concept of having sleep taken away from people is a pretty nasty one and kind of perfect for this show but it's also the sort of concept that Steven Moffat himself would've went to town with while Gatiss's script struggled with it. ![]() The Doctor and Clara ended up on the Le Verrier space station, only to find that the crew were dead, a rescue mission had landed and there were a bunch of creepy-ish looking creatures that Clara decided to dub Sandmen for fairly obvious reasons. I neither love it nor hate it and technically that's how I feel about this episode, compared to some of the less favourable reactions to it online. For me, it's a genre in which I don't particularly have strong feelings for. Mark Gatiss for his efforts genuinely tried to do something out of his usual comfort zone for this show and while that alone is almost admirable, it was a venture that did not pay off.įirst of all - found footage isn't exactly a new concept and it's certainly one that can seriously divide audiences too. ![]() If there were ever an unwise set of words to end an episode of well, anything on, it would be those ones. ![]() Rassmussen (to audience): "I did tell you not to watch." ![]() ![]() ![]() Traditional Pastry Cream - or Crème Pâtissière in French - is the typical filling used to make a fruit tart. The crusts should slide straight out of the tart molds. Take out of the oven and leave to cool down completely.Bake for 15 minutes, remove the weights/baking paper and bake for an additional 10 minutes. Photo 8: Cover each crust with a little bit of baking paper then fill with baking weights, dried beans or rice. While it is preheating, place tartlet shells in the freezer. Place the tartlets shells back in the fridge to chill for at least one hour, or up to 24 hours.Place back in the fridge for a few minutes. If too warm, the pastry will be soft and starts to break. Just let it come back to room temperature for a few minutes first. The temperature of the pastry is important: if too cold, it will be stiff and difficult to handle. Leftover pastry can be re-rolled, chilled and used to make more tartlets. Dock the bottom of the pastry with a fork. Optionally, use a straw to define the fluted edge. Photo 7: Gently press down the pastry into the molds to line them and cut off any excess. The instructions for this method can be found in my tartlet shells recipe! I cut out the disks of pastry to be about 10 to 12 cm (3/8 to 1/2 inch) wide.Īlternatively, you could also make the tartlet shells in a muffin pan (or mini muffin pan). I used these Mini Tart Pans that are 7 cm (1/4 inch) wide. Photo 6: Remove the baking paper and cut out circles of pastry slightly larger than the tartlet pans you are using.Place on a flat tray then in the fridge to chill and rest for at least one hour - or up to 24 hours.Photo 5: Cover the pastry with a second sheet of baking / parchment paper.Rroll to a thickness of about 4 mm (1/8 inch).Work it for a few seconds until it comes together into a ball. Tip the pastry over a sheet of baking paper.Keep going until you get the desired consistency. If the dough seems too dry, add a little bit of very cold water - about 1 tablespoon at the time. If they stick together and turn into a smooth dough, it is ready. ![]() To know the pastry has been mixed enough, press together some of the crumbs in your hand. Photo 4: Mix until a rough, slightly crumbly dough starts to come together. In this case, we do not want too much flakiness so make sure the crumbs are very small. The larger the crumbs, the flakier the pastry will be. Photo 2: Blend for a few seconds or until you get small crumbs of butter.Photo 1: Add the very cold butter cut into small cubes.Pulse for a few seconds to mix and break down any lumps. Place the Flour, Salt and Icing Sugar in the bowl of your food processor.I love to make it in the food processor for ease, but it can also be made by hands too. This pie crust is made from Flour (and a pinch of salt), Icing Sugar (or powder sugar), Butter (very cold) and Egg. The pastry used to make the tartlet shells is a classic Pâte Sablée - or French Shortcrust Pastry. You will only need to assemble the tartlets the day of your party! How to make Mini Fruit Tartlets Mini Tart Shells Think mixed berries in Summer, poached pears or apples in Winter! The custard filling can be replaced with Lemon Curd, a cream cheese filling, Chocolate Cremeux or Chocolate Pastry Cream.īoth the tartlet shells and the cream filling can be made a few days in advance. These mini tarts are easily customisable with your choice of favourite fruits. It doesn't get more fancy than Mini Fruit Tartlets for a special occasion or party! Combining Homemade Tartlet Shells, creamy Pastry Cream Filling ( Crème Pâtissière) and seasonal fruits, these tartlets are the perfect mix of crunchy, creamy, sweet and fresh. In the cove outside the hotel I would see divers every evening doing night dives, I would come to find out what they were doing was diving for manta rays. Back then, the resort was down a long dark drive outside of Kona. They never made a penny off of me at that buffet. ![]() I loved that place, they had an all you can eat lunch buffet for $19.99 that included yellow tail tuna sashimi. One of the places I used to stay at was the Kona Surf and Golf Resort. As part of that job I got to work in Hawaii quite a bit. I scored my first professional full-time job in the early 90’s. As a younger adult I had to be satisfied with car trips and cross-country road trips. I have wanted to see the world since I was a little kid. Q: Are you guaranteed to see manta rays on a manta ray snorkel?Ī: There is a 90 to 95% chance of seeing manta rays on a manta ray snorkeling cruise, and depending on the tour, if you do not see manta rays, you will often get your money back or you can go back on the tour for free.Ī: The Big Island manta rays are mostly found in Keauhou Bay at Manta Village and Manta Heaven. If you’re a regular reader you know my penchant for adventure and travel. Snorkeling equipment and flotation devices are provided, but you should still feel comfortable swimming in the water. Q: Do I need to know how to swim to manta ray snorkel?Ī: Yes, since this activity is out in open water, all participants should be know how to swim. Very minimal snorkeling effort is required. You will float at the surface, holding onto the light board watching as the manta rays come swooping in beneath you. The lights attract the plankton, and the plankton attracts the mantas. Floating light boards are used to light up the ocean from the surface to the ocean floor. Book this activity early to make sure you get a spot on a manta ray snorkeling tour.įrequently Asked Questions Q: How does manta ray night snorkeling work?Ī: Your guides will begin your manta experience with a thorough explanation of everything manta. Many of the best manta ray night snorkels in Kona book up days or weeks in advance. These tours depart right before sunset so you can watch the sky come alive in an array of colors before heading into the water. If you would like to see some of the best Hawaiian sunset views, book a sunset tour with your manta snorkel. Not to worry though, all guests will be provided with flotation devices. ![]()
![]() ![]() Attached is a screen shot ofĪ demo piece that just emulates the studio. Go into the model making show before we even use CAD and for rendering we spend some time in the photo studio. However are also really great tools to use as a designer for asking questionsĪlso as an educator I have to teach the students how rendering works and Keyshot hardly allows me to do this. Rhino is incredible fast with answering often withing 30 min to emails I send them. One of the main reasons also why I like Blender so much besides its terrific render engine is also the community. Of course you need to learn Blender or VRay or Modo first. With Blender except the very easy file import Keyshot offers. I just some weeks ago had an interesting discussion with my students who wanted to know about KS and quickly realized that they can do the same I grew up with CGI and thus feel natural with it and when I work in keyshot I feel like in a prison. I still don't know much about rendering, but I can open KeyShot, drop in a file, and get results with very little effort, and I don't worry too much about having forgotten how to use the program, as the interface is understandable. And when I called or emailed with some questions they were extremely helpful- that support is worth a lot when I'm dealing with a software area in which I don't really know my way around. The interface was easy for me to understand, it worked right away with the files I needed it to. KeyShot offered a full featured demo that I could plug my files into, and it gave me good enough results (I'm not going to be very critical) with almost no effort. The cost, even with a pretty good discount, was fairly high, but not as high to me as spending even a day or two learning something else. I'm not experienced in this area, and rendering is a very occasional need for me. ![]() At the time (this is still true) I had essentially no mental bandwidth to spare for learning or researching this kind of software. There may well have been other things out there, but they did not turn up in my searching. I bought KeyShot a few years back when I needed a render solution on the Mac that was easily accessible and that I could start using very quickly. ![]() |
